Everything is born with VLISCO.
In 1846 the company Vlisco is founded in Holland to produce and sell handcrafted fabrics for his own country and abroad. In 1852, Vlisco starts exporting batiks to his Dutch colony in the East Indies, today known as Indonesia. Vlisco manages to produce very good imitations of local batiks. Around 1900 in Indonesia, local craftsmen develop a new technique known as "Tjap" (stamp) lowering local production prices. The Dutch government of Indonesia tries to protect the local product by charging hight import duties. The european cotton printing companies have to look for new markets, which they find in Africa. The designs are adapted to suit african taste and the demand grows. This fabric is succesfully established in Central and Westerns Africa. Today it is part of the African's people identity.
